The Big Picture

This blog post is taken from my book Golden Nuggets, and I believe that I first heard this story from Zig Ziglar.

This story is a good reminder if you don’t have clearly defined goals you might lose sight of the big picture; and it goes like this…

Once upon a time, the residents of a small town built a new bridge.

After building the bridge, they decided that they needed to hire a watchman to keep an eye on it.

So they hired a watchman, and since the watchman needed to be paid, they hired an accountant.

Well, you can’t have an accountant without a treasurer, and with a watchman, and an accountant, and a treasurer, they needed to have an administrator, so they hired one.

About a year later, the town needed to reduce their expenses… so they fired the watchman.

And once again, this story is a good reminder that without clearly defined goals you might lose sight of the big picture.
