The Scorpion

This blog post is taken from my book Golden Nuggets, and it’s a story that reminds me that people always act according to their true nature.

The story goes like this…

Once upon a time, a scorpion wanted to cross a river, but of course, scorpions can’t swim.

The scorpion noticed a frog sitting on the bank of the river, so the scorpion asked the frog to carry him to the other side.

The frog said that he was afraid the scorpion would sting him during the trip.

The scorpion pointed out that if he were to sting the frog, then they’d both drown.

This made sense to the frog, so the frog agreed to carry the scorpion across the river.

About halfway across the river the scorpion stung the frog, and as they were both about to drown, the frog said to the scorpion, “Why did you sting me?”

And the scorpion replied, “Because I’m a scorpion, and that’s what scorpions do.”
