Setting and Accomplishing Goals – Part 2

Many people think that they already have goals, when, in reality, what they actually have is a series of wishes and dreams, like “Be happy” or “Make a lot of money” or “Have a nice family life.” These are nice wishes – they’re nice dreams, but they’re not Goals. They’re merely fantasies that are common to everyone. On the other hand, a goal, is not simply a wish or a dream. To me, a Real Goal is something that’s clear, it’s written, it’s specific – it can be quickly and easily described to another person. You can measure it, You know when you have achieved it – and you know when you haven’t achieved it. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ To achieve all of your goals and become everything you’re capable of becoming, you must know how to manage your time. Psychologists generally agree that a “sense of control” is the key to feelings of happiness, confidence, power and personal well-being. And a sense of control is only possible when you practice excellent time management skills. The good news is that time management is a skill, and like any other skill, it can be learned. No matter how disorganized you’ve been in the past or how much you’ve tended to procrastinate or to get caught up in low-value activities, you can change. You’ve probably heard the saying, that what gets measured gets done. Well, there’s also a saying that goes like this… “If you can’t measure it, then you can’t manage it.” Your ability to set specific measures on your goals, and keep accurate records and accurately track your performance each day, will assure that you achieve your goals exactly when you’ve decided to achieve them – or – you might even reach your goals early. One last little random thought that I probably got from John Maxwell was that he said one reason he’s such an effective speaker is because his goal is to love his audience more than the subject he’s discussing. Isn’t that good? Well, as usual, you probably know most of the things that I shared on this Golden Nugget, because winners have goals – they understand goals – and you are a winner, and given enough time, you WILL Win – Yes, you ARE a Winner.
