Generosity and the Mindset of Abundance

It’s been said that back in the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less than it does today, there was a ten-year-old boy who entered a hotel coffee shop and sat down at one of the tables. As the waitress put a glass of water in front of him, he said to her, “How much is an ice cream sundae?” And she replied, “Fifty cents.” The little boy pulled out his money. He counted the coins. And then he said to her, “Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” By now, more people had entered the coffee shop and the waitress was growing impatient. She replied, rather abruptly, “A plain dish of ice cream thirty-five cents.” The little boy, once again, looked down at his money and then said, “I’ll have a plain dish of ice cream.” The waitress left, came back with the ice cream, put the bill on the table, and walked away. The boy finished his bowl of ice cream, paid the cashier, and left.  When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped the table. You see, there, placed right beside the empty dish, she found two nickels and five pennies. You see, that boy didn’t order the sundae, because if he did, he wouldn’t have had enough money to leave a tip. And this story really touches my heart, because when my wife and I were first married, sometimes, we’d go out to eat and we’d order water instead of a soft drink or iced tea, because that way, we’d have enough money left over so that we’d be able to leave a tip. But you know what, everybody’s not like that! I know a guy, used to work for me, he’d order a Coke or a Pepsi with his meal and then he wouldn’t leave a tip, because he’d spent everything that he had on the meal. Now this guy moved away and I haven’t seen him for years, but I’m gonna guess that he’s still struggling financially, because he was stingy. He didn’t understand the concept of give and it shall be given unto you. But I do! I understand that concept! I have a mindset of abundance! I truly believe in the old saying that a generous person will be blessed. How about you? If you’re given enough time, will your generous attitude, your mindset of abundance, be one of the reasons why everybody will say that you ARE a winner?
