3 Things to Remember when Dealing with Problems

Problems are real! Is it a Problem or a Condition? They exist, and one of the best ways to solve a problem is to clearly define what the problem is and to make sure that it’s really a problem. You see, a problem can be solved while a condition can’t be solved. If you’re six foot five and wanna become a professional horse jockey, this isn’t a problem that can be solved, it’s a condition that you’ve simply gotta live with. On the other hand, if you’re twenty-years-old and you’re five foot six and you wanna be an NBA center, you’re not faced with a problem that can be solved, you’re faced with a condition that you’ve gotta live with. Now, I threw in the part about being twenty-years-old, because you might make a good NBA center if you’re five foot six and just turned seven-years-old. Yes, when dealing with problems, I think the first thing you’ve gotta do is to clearly define what the problem is and to make sure that it’s really a problem. Problems will find you, be prepared! One of the things I noticed when I was reading the story of David and Goliath was that the Israelites had a big problem. You see, the Philistines had gathered their armies for battle. They were camped at a place called Socoh which belonged to one of the tribes of Israel. Hey! Israel didn’t go out looking for a fight! The Philistines had invaded the land that belonged to Israel and they were the ones who wanted to fight. As I read about this, the thought that came to my mind was that you don’t need to go out looking for problems. Problems will find you. You can be minding your own business, and the next thing you know, BOOM, a problem pops up. The only people who are surprised when problems pop up are the simple-minded, those who are naive. Everyone has problems, and today, you might be facing a problem that seems too big to handle, but one of the lessons that I want to share with you is that the size of the problem is never the real problem. The real problem is the size of your capacity to handle the problem. I hope you didn’t miss what I just said, because this is one of the keys to growth and success, and this is what I’m gonna talk about in my next Golden Nugget. The Size of the Problem isn’t the issue… One more time: The size of the problem is never the real problem. The real problem is the size of your capacity to handle the problem. And I think that your capacity to handle problems is bigger today than it was last year, and I expect it to be bigger next year than it is today, because you are a winner, and given enough time, you WILL win! Yes, you ARE a winner!
